What Is My Life Purpose? 9 Questions to Find Clarity and Direction
My Life Purpose allows me to work remotely and live the fairytale life I have always dreamed of.
What Is Life Purpose? (And Why You Might Feel Lost Right Now)
Do you ever feel like you’re meant for more without being able to put into words what that “more” actually is? You’re not alone. So many people reach a point in their lives and careers where everything looks “fine” on the outside and yet something inside feels off. There’s often a quiet voice inside whispering: “This isn’t it”. And over time that whisper turns into a deeper question:
What is my life purpose?
But here’s the truth most people don’t tell you: your life purpose isn’t something you need to find somewhere outside of yourself. It’s something you remember within yourself. In my work, I guide people through a simple but powerful shift: from looking outside to listening inside, from overthinking to feeling, from mind first to heart first.
Because your purpose has two parts: your inner purpose, which is about being (your connection to yourself, your joy, your presence) & your outer purpose, which is about doing (how your gifts express in the world - your dream career). And the second only becomes clear when you reconnect with the first. So let’s start there.
How to Find Your Life Purpose: 9 Questions to Discover Your True Calling
You’ve found your life purpose, when you feel deeply alive again.
Take your time with these questions. This isn’t a career quiz to rush through, but rather a gentle conversation with yourself. You might want to journal your answers.
1. When do I feel most like myself?
Not the version of you that performs or tries to meet expectations, but the real you underneath it all. When do you alive, when do you feel fully present? What moments feel natural and effortless? These experiences point to your inner purpose, your natural state of being.
2. What makes me feel truly alive?
Think of moments where you felt excited and inspired in your life. Not what looks good from the outside, but what genuinely feels right on the inside. Your purpose always carries energy, and it often shows up in the moments that light you up.
3. What did I love as a child?
Before expectations of society and your parents, before fear, and before the pressure to be realistic, what did you enjoy doing for hours? What came naturally to you? What did you get lost in? Your childhood often holds powerful clues to your authentic essence and the parts of you that are still waiting to be expressed.
4. What are my natural gifts and strengths?
Your talents & strengths can point you towards your life purpose.
This isn’t just about what you’re good at, but what feels easy and intuitive to you. What do people naturally come to you for? What feels effortless compared to others? Your outer purpose is often built on the strengths that already exist within you.
5. What kind of life do I secretly dream about?
If there were no limitations, what would your life look like? Your days? How would you spend your time? What kind of work would you do? Your dream life isn’t random or unrealistic. It’s a form of guidance pointing you toward what is truly aligned for you. And if others can live their dream lives, why couldn’t you?
6. What feels out of alignment in my life right now?
Clarity can also come from noticing what doesn’t feel right iny our life. What drains your energy? What feels heavy or forced? Where are you saying yes when you actually mean no? Misalignment is often your heart’s way of gently redirecting you.
7. What do I deeply care about and want to contribute?
Life purpose goes beyond yourself. How do you want to contribute to the world?
What topics move you emotionally? What kind of change do you wish to see in the world? What do you dislike about it right now that you really wish you could change? What conversations light you up and make you feel engaged? Your purpose is always connected to meaning and contribution, even if it starts in a small and personal way.
8. What am I afraid of… but also drawn to?
This is an important one. What feels scary but exciting at the same time? What do you keep thinking about but hesitate to act on? Very often, your purpose lives just outside your comfort zone, waiting for you to take one small step toward it.
9. If I trusted myself fully, what would I do next?
Not in five or ten years and not in some perfect future, but right now. What is the next step that feels right to you, even if it doesn’t make logical sense yet? Your purpose doesn’t reveal itself all at once, it unfolds step by step as you begin to trust yourself.
Inner Purpose vs Outer Purpose: How Your True Calling Becomes Clear
The School of Souls Life Purpose Model: With the Heart Answers™ Method, you can access your Life Purpose. Both your inner purpose and your outer purpose.
If you take a moment to reflect on these questions, you may start to notice that your answers are not random, but deeply connected. This is how your life purpose begins to take shape. Your inner purpose is how you feel when you are aligned with your heart, and your outer purpose is what you do from that place.
Most people try to figure out their purpose only through thinking, but your purpose isn’t a problem to solve. Your purpose is something you feel, remember, and gently begin to bring into your life.
